Arrest in investigation into wrongful childcare benefit applications

On 24 July, the FIOD arrested a 61-year-old man from Dordrecht. He is suspected of fraud and forgery. It is suspected that he helped people wrongfully apply for childcare benefit. His home was searched, seizing records, a laptop and phones.

The criminal investigation was launched following reports from Logius and the Financial Intelligence Unit Netherlands (FIU). Investigations revealed that the accused man submitted several applications for childcare benefit to the Dienst Toeslagen of the Tax Administration. He did so for other individuals and used their DigiD data to do so. It turned out that these individuals were not entitled to childcare benefit, as their children were not known to the specified childcare organization. The man received a fee from these people for submitting the childcare benefit applications.

The investigation is led by the Netherlands Public Prosecution Service.
